When Fumo approached us to design their restaurant in Covent Garden, we knew that their main customer and business focus would be on the theatre crowd and tourists exploring London and looking for a quality venue that provided an experience as well as exceptional food. What that meant is that, from day one of the project, we channelled our time and energy into designing a welcoming space which was functional enough to deliver food efficiently and smoothly, but which was aesthetically pleasing enough to entice guests and encourage them to return.
With an eye for simple, calm, and laid-back design, the team at Fumo in Covent Garden were keen to infuse modern vibes into the restaurant – leaning heavily on neutral colour palettes, subtle decorative accessories, and plenty of textures to bring the space to life and carry it from day to night and back again.
Upon walking into the restaurant, the open plan layout meant that we needed to find ways of separating the space without detracting from the light and bright interior design. Using glass partitions and plenty of mirrors, decorated with angular and geometric neutrally coloured designs and lines, we split the large space into several dining areas – supported with a large bar and bar stools along one side of the restaurant.
Continuing with the trend of functional and minimal style, we used wine bottles, crockery, and kitchen implements as part and parcel of the décor along the walls and outskirts of the restaurant, with the open fronted bar shelves adding to the functional and practical aesthetic finish present throughout the space.
Finally, we spent time sourcing a high quality blend of materials for the restaurant interior, including the dark marble floor, the white arabescato marble bar and table tops, and the neutral fabric covered chairs which compliment the lampshades and the simple but elegant branding associated with Fumo.
An example of elegant, luxurious, and practical dining spaces in London finished to a high standard and offering an unrivalled service.
